Our History

Our History

The Cathedral Credit Union was born in the early 1840s in a parish where thrift was a lost art and the moneylender omnipresent, taking as much as 100% on small loans. Savings and membership increased slowly and by the end of 1945, there were 30 members with $394.60 saved. For a number of years, the credit union was restricted to Catholics but opened the doors in 1971 to include all persons residing and/or working in the ecclesiastical region of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Membership now stands at over 10,000 members.
